Welcome to Year 2's Class Page
Year 2 marks the last year of KS1 and it is a very fun, exciting and busy year. Your child will learn lots of take part in the many exciting opportunities linked to our three themes – Dangerous Dinosaurs, London's Burning and Peckish Pirates. Make sure to keep updated by checking Class Dojo and by following our school’s Twitter page, @ourladyqop.
Daily reading is expected at least 3 times a week but preferably every night. Your child will independently change their reading book three times a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday). On Tuesday and Thursday please take the opportunity to re-read the school reading book and ask and answer questions to improve comprehension skills. Please ensure you use the VIPERS questions stuck in the front of the reading record to develop your child's understanding of what they have read. Reading records will be checked each week.
Spelling homework is given out on a Friday and is due in the following Wednesday. There will also be a Spelling Test every Wednesday covering the high frequency words, Year 1 and 2 common exception words and Year 2 phonic words.
Occasional Maths, English or Projects linked to our themes will be set across the year.
Please practise our Year 2 KIRFS (Key Instant Recall Facts) and times tables at home focussing on the 2x, 5x and 10x tables as this will support your child before being introduced to Times Table Rockstars later in the Spring Term.
For the Autumn Term children are expected to come to school in PE kit on Tuesdays and Thursdays. These days may change in the Spring and Summer term, and if so, the new days will be communicated to you. In the Summer Term on Fridays, we will be going swimming. Please be advised that all jewellery must be removed for PE lessons.
In the Autumn Term children in Year 2 will have Forest School on a Monday. They will need to bring a bag of clothes and wellies to get changed into for this, which they can leave in school all term.
- Please ensure your child brings their reading book and record to school every day, as well as, a water bottle to keep in the classroom.
- If you have any queries surrounding your child's learning or wellbeing, please do not hesitate to contact any of the Year 2 staff on Class Dojo or speak to us briefly after school. For any administrative queries, please contact Miss Rogers at the school office.
