Welcome to Year 5!
You are now at the top end of the Primary School and I’m sure this year will go by quickly. You have settled in well to our new classroom and I hope you enjoy this year and work hard.
Each week you will be given some Maths and English homework, which matches the work you do in class. Make sure you have pens and pencils at home to use and it’s really important to do your homework on time. You will also have spellings to learn, and you’ll write these down in your homework book to practise at home ready for a test in class. This year we will continue to focus on our times tables.
Even if you are a fluent reader, it is still important to read as often as possible, and do continue to read aloud to someone at home. You may choose to read your own books from home or from the library as well as your colour banded book. Make sure your adult signs your reading record. Sometimes you may be given a topic to research for homework. To do this you can ask an adult to help you, as you may need to borrow books from the library or use the internet. (Don’t worry if you do not have the internet at home, as you can use it for free at the local library). Our themes can be found on the yearly overview. You have all returned to school with a positive and hard-working attitude, which is lovely to see. Well done to everyone for remembering to bring the correct equipment to school. Our PE lessons take place on a Tuesday and Friday, so make sure you always have your full kit in school. With lots of exciting topics to learn in Class 5, this year should be full of interesting learning.
I hope you will be happy in my class, and remember that if you are worried about your work, always ask Mrs Dugard or myself for help.
Enjoy the year!
